The pictured element is commonly used in Honan Crane (Parker Hannifin) style housings in place of the bulk filled basket/bag assembly. Remove the basket and the cartridges will slide directly over the center pipe,

This design makes filter media change-out much more convenient. The bag style cartridge eliminates the settling problems associated with a rigid canister. The bags stack and seal on each other without need for gaskets or spacers. Rigid metal core provides support and positioning on standpipe but does not interfere with positive bag seal. Lifting strap (not pictured) makes installation and removal easy.
